Alice Springs Airport CPV System (photo by Steve Strike)Alice Springs Airport

As part of the Alice Solar City iconics program the Alice Springs airport was selected as a site for the installation of a large scale photovoltaic installation.

CAT Projects was engaged by Northern Territory Airports to perform an assessment of financial and technical aspects of the proposed technology. This involved modeling outputs, maintenance and operating costs, future electricity tariffs and examining potential refurbishment options for future upgrades to the system. The company's involvement was then extended to include project management and superintendent duties of installation works.

Commissioning of the system was completed in September 2010 followed by calibration of each array and the system is predicted to produce approximately 28% of the Alice Springs Airport's electricity needs.  Aerial images of the site can be viewed here.
